How to add a member
Open the Members tab
Inside your workspace, the Members tab lists everyone currently invited and their role.
Click Add Member
A search box appears. Type the colleague's or student's email address — they must already be a registered Markaroo user. If they aren't, ask your school administrator (or our support team) to register them first.
Choose the role
Toggle between Add Teacher and Add Student before confirming. Admins are promoted from existing teachers (see below).
Confirm
The member appears immediately in the list. They'll see the workspace next time they sign in — no email invitation is sent, so let them know to log in.
The four roles
| Role | Can do | Cannot do |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Everything. Delete or rename the workspace, promote admins, change any setting, grade and publish. | — |
| Admin | Add/remove members, create and edit templates, grade and publish, view all analytics. | Delete the workspace. |
| Teacher | Create templates, upload answers, grade, review, and publish feedback. View analytics. | Add or remove members. |
| Student | See assignments shared with them, submit their own answer PDFs, read published feedback and their own progress. | See other students' work, marks, or analytics. |
Promoting a teacher to admin
On any teacher's row in the Members tab, the menu icon offers Make Admin. The change takes effect immediately. To step back down, choose Remove Admin from the same menu.
Heads of department usually become Admin. Class teachers normally stay as Teacher. The Owner is whoever first created the workspace — usually you.
Adding students in bulk
For a whole class, the fastest path is to share the workspace with one of two flows:
- You upload — keep students out of the workspace entirely and upload their answer PDFs yourself. The grading guide explains the filename trick that auto-names them.
- Students upload — add each student as a member; they then see the assignment under their Assignments tab and submit through Submit Answer. No scanning for you, no paper handling.
Removing a member
Use the menu on any row → Remove from workspace. The member's existing assessments and feedback remain in the workspace; only their access is revoked.
Students only ever see their own submissions and feedback — never each other's. The Leaderboard dashboard (if you choose to share it) shows anonymised initials only.
