The Problem
The Assessment Challenge
Marking consumes more teacher time than any other single activity. The consequences extend far beyond the staffroom.
Average weekly marking time per teacher across UK secondary schools
Of teachers cite marking workload as the primary reason for considering leaving the profession
Typical turnaround for detailed essay feedback — too slow for students to act upon meaningfully
Of planning time lost to assessment administration, reducing time for impactful teaching
The Process
How Markaroo Works
Three steps. Examiner-quality feedback. Complete teacher control at every stage.
Submit
Upload the complete question paper and student answers as a single PDF — typed or handwritten. No need to crop, separate, or photograph individual questions.
Analyse
Markaroo analyses the response against the specific mark scheme, assessing knowledge, application, analysis, and evaluation.
Review
Teachers receive detailed draft feedback with criterion-referenced marks. Review, adjust, and release — nothing reaches students without approval.
A fall in the rate of interest can stimulate economic growth through multiple transmission mechanisms.1 Lower interest rates reduce the cost of borrowing for both firms and consumers, which according to Keynesian analysis should lead to increased investment (I) and consumption (C), thereby raising aggregate demand (AD = C + I + G + X - M).
From a classical perspective, the impact on investment is particularly significant. When interest rates fall, the marginal efficiency of capital rises relative to the cost of borrowing, making previously unprofitable investment projects viable. This is supported by empirical evidence from the Bank of England's post-2008 monetary policy, where base rates fell from 5% to 0.5%.
However, the effectiveness of interest rate cuts depends heavily on the economic context.2 During the liquidity trap identified by Keynes, further reductions in interest rates may have minimal impact on spending, as was arguably the case in the UK between 2009 and 2016 when growth remained sluggish despite historically low rates.
Moreover, supply-side policies such as investment in education and infrastructure may be more effective in promoting long-run sustainable economic growth by shifting the long-run aggregate supply (LRAS) curve to the right. This addresses the productive capacity of the economy rather than merely stimulating demand.
- Strong use of Keynesian and classical theoretical frameworks with accurate terminology throughout.
- Effective use of the Bank of England post-2008 example to support analysis of monetary policy transmission.
- Clear logical structure with counter-argument demonstrating awareness of the liquidity trap limitation.
- Strengthen evaluation by considering whether interest rate cuts are necessary but not sufficient, rather than treating them as binary effective or ineffective.
- Include quantitative evidence for the impact of supply-side alternatives to build a more substantive comparison.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the marking?
Markaroo is trained on board-specific mark schemes and standardisation materials. In our pilot, AI-generated marks have shown strong alignment with senior examiner benchmarks. Every mark and comment is presented as a draft for teacher review — the teacher always makes the final decision.
Which exam boards and subjects are supported?
We currently support AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and WJEC mark schemes across Economics, Business Studies, Politics, History, Religious Studies, English Literature, and English Language. Psychology, Sociology, and Geography are in development.
Is student data secure?
Absolutely. All data is hosted on UK-based servers and processed in compliance with UK GDPR. Student data is never shared with third parties, never used to train external models, and can be deleted at any time upon request.
Can teachers override the AI feedback?
Yes, always. Markaroo generates draft feedback and suggested marks, but nothing is released to students without explicit teacher approval. Teachers can adjust marks, edit comments, add their own observations, or override any part of the assessment.
How long does it take to get started?
Under 30 minutes. There is no IT integration required — Markaroo runs as a web application accessible from any device. Upload a PDF, and you are ready. We have intentionally designed the interface to be intuitive from the first use, with dedicated onboarding support available.
What does the pilot programme involve?
A free evaluation period for your chosen department, with dedicated support from our team. There is no commitment and no cost. We work closely with your teachers to measure impact on marking time, feedback quality, and student outcomes.
